How do we pair wines with our seasonal food?

Selecting your favourite wine is not always the best choice when it comes to finding the right wine to enhance your dining experience.

Our drinks expert has two suggestions of what would be ideal to serve with Shepherd’s Pie – a delicious red Rioja, which is always good with lamb, or traditional English ale.

We have selected Belezos Rioja Crianza, Bodegas Zugober 2014 Rioja, Spain from our Farmers & Fletchers in the City wine list. This is a classic dry, medium-bodied, Rioja from a small, quality family winery founded in 1987 in the prestigious Rioja Alavesa region.

The wine is garnet red in colour with clean and intense aromas of red fruit and spicy notes.  The palate displays rich plum, dark cherry fruit and warm spices long lasting on the palate with fresh balancing acidity and ripe tannin structure.

Our alternative suggestion is T.E.A. (Traditional English Ale) brewed by the award winning Hogg’s Back Brewery.  This small family-owned brewery is tucked away in the village of Tongham in the heart of the old Surrey hop growing region.

The ale is an enticing amber colour with a hoppy and slightly fruity aroma.  The finest English malt is carefully balanced with local Fuggles hops. This is gently fermented to leave some of the natural malt sugars, to give a full and satisfying flavour with a long, dry finish.

The wrong pairing can ruin a dining experience, so when you are planning an event or dinner at Farmers & Fletchers in the City our experts will provide advice on the ideal pairing to improve your guests’ enjoyment.
